This is it-Kolkata: Contoured meteorological deterrent will slew into a danger notice for today in Kolkata and adjacent areas wherein there is a promise that some intense thunderstorms will accompany the rain during the next few hours. Meteorologists claim that the activity of rain and thunderstorms may pick up around midday especially in the afternoon period. It also predicts winds blowing at a speed of 60 kilometers an hour, which are likely to be felt in areas like Digha and Howrah apart from Kolkata.

In consideration of this warning, the local administration has urged citizens to remain alert. "They are advised to avert unnecessary travel and remain condoned in their homes until the weather issues improved. Experts caution that during this weather, people should take extra precautions while walking outdoors as heavy rains along with strong winds could hinder walking paths.

A senior official of the Kolkata Meteorological Center disclosed, "We had foreseen an unusual weather behavior with high temperature and humidity. From now onwards, our focus should now be to minimize the effects of whatsoever situation. Everyone needs to be alert for this situation". In such cases, schools and colleges have also been told to rethink the organization of activities and inform students of ways to return home safely with their parents.

The official added that heavy thunderstorms in the afternoon may also lead to power cuts at several places across the Kolkata area. The electricity department has thus been directed to ramp up preparedness and response to power cuts immediately. 

She tweeted and asked: 'Please take these weather warnings seriously and try to stay safe.' She has also mandated that essential services must be prioritized and those living in sensitive areas must beware.

Most residents seemed to take precautions regarding the approaching weather in the local markets. Most traders have covered their merchandise from rain, while clients can be seen scrambling early to shop for last-minute items ahead of impending rain. Some markets, however, seem to be more subdued today due to fears of the weather.

In light of such warnings, the Kolkata Traffic Police launched helpline numbers so that people could seek help in times of long-enduring crises. They have also advised drivers on extreme caution while handling other people on the road. 

Also, the Meteorological Department has reiterated that the situation is being monitored in real-time and updates with more warning will be provided as necessary. In the end, everyone should once again stay alert to the predictions so that he can stay safe from natural occurrences.
