A massive inferno broke out at a mall in Bandra, Mumbai, on Saturday night. The fire is reported to be at level four out of four levels classified. Mumbaikars fire brigade team reached very immediately at the news of fire and have started operations.
The initial reports suggest that a fire broke out first in the basement where a large number of food kiosks and other shops were situated, and then it spread to engulf the other parts of the mall. In a stampede, smoke billowed heavily in the mall from which customers and staff trapped in tried to escape.
For the situation, firefighting equipment was on high alert. Fire engines from several fire stations came to the site because of the fire intensity. Of course, if that were not enough to hamper the firefighters, the smoke and heat in the mall were at the highest concentrations. In such a situation, a 'fire-robot' was also called for further safety and rescue operations.
By fire-robot is understood an advanced technology being employed for firefighting activities. This robot can find the source of fire, spray water, and analyze smoke. The use of this robot hastened the control of fire and made it easy and safe for the firefighters in conducting rescue operations inside the mall.
But even as the news of the fire in Bandra Mall broke, it created worry among the nearby residents and traders. Many of them came out of their homes to see the cause of pandemonium.
