According to reports, on 10 May 2025, India struck hard at the three major airbases located in Pakistan's Punjab Province - Chaklala (near Rawalpindi), Murid (Chakwal district), and Rafiqui (in Shorkot, Jhang District). These attacks were launched under the aegis of Operation Sindoor in response to relentless drone attacks by Pakistan on Indian territory.
Chaklala Air Base (Noor Khan air base now):
This airbase is situated in the heart of the Chaklala area in Rawalpindi, about 10 km away from Islamabad.
It is one of Pakistan's most sensitive military complexes.
The airbase is an important site for air force operations and VIP mo
vements. It has aircraft that are used by the top-level political and military leadership of Pakistan.
Chaklala is also a center for air refuel and transport missions. Around five to six major transport squadrons of the Air Force operate from this airfield.
It also houses the PAF College--a training institute for officers of the Pakistan Airforce.
This airbase has played a pivotal role in all the previous conflicts such as those of 1965 and 1971.
In 2012, this air base was renamed PAF Base Noor Khan after its first base commander Air Marshal Malik Noor Khan.
Murid Air Base:
Located in the district of Chakwal in the Province of Punjab.
In recent times, drone operations have gone on target towards India from this airbase.
It houses several squadrons of Pakistan Air Force that operate sophisticated UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) and UCAVs (unmanned combat aerial vehicles).
